Introducing the DiasporaDNA Rebrand

The DiasporaDNA team is excited to announce our re-brand! The talented designers from the FRANK Creative Solutions team, Olivia DiPasquale and Kaarina Mackenzie, worked diligently and thoughtfully to create a new identity for DiasporaDNA that captured our mission for amplifying stories from the Global Majority and celebrating our shared humanity. Our new visuals are representative of what we stand for, our goals, and the work we will continue to do for years to come.

Website

If you are reading this blog on our website, then you may have noticed our new branding, layout, and imagery. You may also have seen our new tagline ‘Healing Through Heritage’–words meant to emphasize that our ancestors are always with us as we chart our path through this world and into the future. We are proud of our new visual identity and the ways in which we have streamlined our information. Our website is constantly evolving (but the branding will remain!), so be sure to check in every once in a while to stay updated with what DiasporaDNA is up to.

In addition to our new look, we also added a few new pages: Events, Founder, and Partner

  • The Events page is your place for information on all upcoming events, as well as our past events. Keep an eye on this page as we announce new events in 2026.

  • On the Founder page, you can learn more about DiasporaDNA’s Founder & President, Monica O. Montgomery. Here you can read more about her work, her clients, and how you can work with Monica and DiasporaDNA.

  • Interested in partnering with DiasporaDNA? Check out the Partner page to learn more about our past and present partners and what we can build together. Email info@diasporadna.org to inquire about what a partnership with DiasporaDNA can entail.

Social Media

Our social media channels also reflect this new visual chapter. With refreshed colors, patterns, and our spiral symbol appearing across our posts, our platforms now carry a bright, welcoming look that supports the stories we share. Along with the updated design, we’re leaning into content that feels educational and human — cultural highlights, recipes, event updates, and community-focused imagery that help us stay connected to the people who follow and engage with us.

This refreshed content brings more culture and everyday heritage into our feed, offering glimpses into traditions, cultural groups, and the communities that shape our work. Our hope is that our social media becomes a place where people feel recognized, inspired, and part of something collective.

We invite you to follow along, engage with our posts, and share your own stories with us. Join our growing digital community as we celebrate Liberation, Veneration, and Expression!

Rebrand Q&A

We asked one of our designers, Olivia, a few questions about the DiasporaDNA rebrand and the thought process behind the team’s decision for this new look:

Describe the thought process of rebrand.
We wanted to honor DiasporaDNA’s origins while evolving its visual identity to feel more global and contemporary. We wanted to create a visual language that honors DDNA's mission. The spiral became the foundation, symbolizing growth, continuity, and the interwoven paths of ancestry and diaspora. From there, the color palette was reimagined as an ode to the original tones, refreshed with modern, brighter hues inspired by textiles from Africa, Asia, and beyond. The introduction of patterns added depth and texture, echoing the layered stories that shape identity. Every design choice was made to balance heritage and modernity.

What’s the significance of the symbol?
The spiral is one of humanity’s oldest symbols. Though simple, it reflects the rhythm of life itself, continuous and ever-evolving. Found across cultures and time, it represents DiasporaDNA’s journey of growth and connection. Drawing from this timeless form, the spiral reflects ancestry and diaspora — stories that loop across time and place. Its organic, hand drawn nature suggests creativity and a human touch, with memories that spiral together to shape identity.

How did you decide on the new color palette?
The new color palette pays homage to the original colors of DiasporaDNA, reimagined through a modern lens with brighter, complementary hues. Inspired by textiles from Africa, Asia, and beyond, the palette celebrates the vibrancy of global cultures. The natural tones paired with vivid tones creates a balance between nature and humanity.

What was the inspiration for choosing the patterns?
Similar to the color palette, the patterns draw inspiration from global textiles. By incorporating pattern, we introduce depth and texture and visual layers that echo the woven stories of culture, craft, and connection.

What's your favorite aspect of the rebrand?
Our favorite aspect of the rebrand is how every element, from the spiral symbol to the color palette and patterns connects back to the idea of lineage and shared humanity. The design feels both rooted and forward-looking: it honors origin while embracing evolution. The balance between natural and vibrant tones, the tactile quality of the patterns, and the organic flow of the spiral all come together to express what DiasporaDNA stands for — growth, connection, and the beauty of our interwoven identities.
